Story on Cameras in Group Homes in Ohio - EA Sees This as Another Law Ripped Apart Because it Helps?

Thank you NBC4 in Columbus for this story! This is why EA strives to be different and face head on what the real issues are in Ohio long-term care. There is a reason our state falls in the bottom numbers of care nationwide. EA is not big on new laws because it appears they are in the control of the Ohio Health Care Association in our opinion. We go to legislators in Ohio, we tell them what will help, and a decent bill seems to be started, which brings some hope. Then, the Ohio Health Care Associaton seems to get final say and rips anything meaningful out of the potential new law, and puts the facilities in control of the new law for it to be passed from what we have seen.

We say over and over again, without enforcements or meaningful laws that are not of a compromised nature, there is no sense for us to advocate for new laws from what we have experienced and seen, there is no path to stopping this unfair way of being blocked by the OHCA for help Including this Never Alone Act, that esentially has potential for facilities facilities to ban families for any reason without any due process for those accused.

Enough is enough already. We are talking about our treasured family members!

This is a vicious cycle that keeps going and going. We see a hamster in a wheel going nowhere on the present course. This is reality. Yet, EA constantly sees the Health Care Association given a high priority in having a seat at Ohio long-term care task force meetings and/or Feedback Sessions. They are given a loud voice on many coalitions for quality care.

But, in our opinion, they are just on these committees to make sure profits over care continue. They use nothing more than a smoke screen in our view to appear they care and advocate for better care, the reality is they advocate to ensure their members can run things that prioritizes profits over care and more ways to keep what we call their playbook of hidding things current!

It's just a waste of time to pursue new laws until we have a chance to see meaningful laws passed, that have enforcements, and do not put the ones giving poor care to our family members the final say through the Ohio Health Care Association in our opinion

Elderly Advocates will continue to eduacate, empower, and help residents and families in this organization. However, we are determined to start a C4 arm that can address exactly what is stopping and hindering required care in Ohio. We have always said we cannot help residents with new laws until we acknowledge the problem and then meaningfully address it. Stay tuned!
