Our Programs

Updated 3.27.23

Elderly Advocates is dedicated to empowering families and caregivers with helpful information and resources to make the best decisions they are able. We do this through our website, Facebook, Zoom Meetings, and in person information sessions at the local libraries. We also strive for our programs and services to be a positive force in acknowledging the issues and ultimately working with facilities and our state agencies to improve the quality of care for all in long-term care. We will be adding information and resources in the near future to help families take care of their loved ones at home as long and safe as is possible. Stay tuned!

Information, Resources & Direct Help

We help families navigate through the complicated system of long-term care and when aging brings a need for a higher level of care. Many families contact us with questions on how to choose a facility, Resident Rights, POA Rights on behalf of resident, and many other issues that arise in long-term care.

Family & Resident Council Assistance

It has been reported that facilities that have Family Councils have improved care. They are an important function that is needed in all long -term care facilities. They run much like a PTA in a school. They can bridge the communication gap between families and facilities. There are no classes in how to take care of your loved one when they need long-term care, however, having peer support available and networking with others in the same situation is priceless! Learn more about family councils here.

Do you need assistance setting up a family or resident council? Elderly Advocates dedicated volunteers are available to help you get organized & provide ongoing support. For more information on this service please use the contact us form for help.

Advocacy

We advocate for our local and state governments to play a more active role in enforcing & creating state and federal regulations, such as adhering to residents rights. We also have sat in on Care Plan Meetings so the Resident Representatives and Families don’t feel alone have support if they request it. We collaborate and communicate with other advocacy organizations and groups to have a louder and united voice in advocating.

Help from Our Community Advocates

We have been fortunate to partner with Community Advocate Members that will assist in getting helpful information out to our members. They advance our mission by providing helpful educational videos on our Facebook Page and website on challanges families face. They also educate on ways to help you protect your loved ones residing or in the process of engaging long term care. They will provide helpful articles in our quarterly newsletter in our Community Advocate Corner. This goes over and beyond the finacial support they provide to help our organization to continue moving forward.

Our Community Advocate Members are made up of local businesses and & Community Organizations that are dedicated to quality long-term care. Get to know them here.

Nursing Home Vetting

Elderly Advocates will only recommend facilites that have shown a genuine interest to improve care and have not had recent multiple complaints from families, staff and/or citations that are worrisome to most. No facility is perfect as we don’t live in a perfect world, however, willingness and dedication to improve care is also important to us and something we value. We welcome facilities to contact us and let us know how we can help them improve care. At the end of the day, that is our mission, to improve the quality of life and care for residents in long-term care. Working together to meet that goal is also priceless!
