Critical Issues and Our Purpose

It is our purpose, as advocates for those residing in Long Term Care Facilities and their families, to ensure all loved ones receive the care they deserve. Quality Care is our objective. It is clear there are numerous critical issues that arise which need positive solutions. They cannot be ignored! At Elderly Advocates, our focus is toward solutions which will benefit the resident and empower the family member/support person as part of the care team. It is also our belief that it will result in positive solutions for the facility.

Critical issues are realized by common grievances found in long-term care. Through forming individual Family Councils and collaborating with like-minded individuals and organizations, we strive to lead the way for innovative ideas that achieves quaility care. Elderly Advocates will educate, support, and advocate for positive advances in the critical challanges residents and families face in long-term care by the following:

  • Seek ways to engage outside volunteers to assist overwhelmed staff in non-care assistance to residents

  • Bridge positive communications between families and staff at faclities regarding any concerns regarding their loved one

  • Seek solutions to decrease medication errors and infections, and increase wound care

  • Advocate for staff training for residents with speical needs

  • Educate families in Hospice care and/or Pallative care options

  • Education on Resident Rights, information, and other resources readily available to residents and families

  • Engaging positive solutions for concerns that are not resolved in unsubstantiated complaints

  • Developing a meaningful grievance and/or documentation process for concerns or complaints

    resulting in eliminating any type of retailiation toward resident and/or family member

  • Bring more understanding to residents and families of care plans and to decrease unknown changes

  • Assist residents and families become more engaged as part of a team in care decisions

  • Better communications/access to physicians and other healthcare provide.

    Positively addressing these critical issues can result in:

  • Decrease incidents, injuiries & illnesses

  • Patients’ wishes, based on their plan of care and personal preferences, being realized

  • Decrease in unknown care plan changes

  • Care providers confident as part of a team in care decsions

  • Decrease in negative care outcomes

  • Gives opportuntiy for facilities to resolve concerns and/or complaints

  • Creating an helpful atmosphere that joins residents, familes and facilities working together towards positive solutions
